The Construction Of The Great Wall’S Earliest Sections

The Great Wall of China, an enduring symbol of strength and perseverance, began its construction over 2,300 years ago during the Warring States period. In 221 B.C., Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China, recognized the need for a unified defense against invading nomadic tribes from the north and ordered the connection of existing walls and fortifications, paving the way for what would become an architectural marvel.

The earliest sections were built using tamped earth and wood, a technique that involved packing layers of soil into wooden frames to create sturdy walls. These early walls stretched approximately 3,000 kilometers through the rugged landscape of northern China, often following the natural contours of the land.
