Ancient Chachapoya Cliff Burial Tombs

High above the lush green valleys of Peru, the ancient Chachapoya civilization crafted their final resting places in the most breathtaking—and terrifying—of locations. Between the 15th and 16th centuries, these “Warriors of the Clouds” built elaborate cliff burial tombs that defy both gravity and expectation, perched precariously on sheer rock faces high in the Andes mountains.
