Ancient Hebrew Shofar Ram Horn

When the ancient Hebrews rallied for battle or summoned prayer, the sound of the shofar—a ram’s horn—pierced the air, reverberating through the ages with a profound spiritual and cultural significance. Crafted from specially selected rams, knowledge of this ritual instrument dates back over 3,000 years to the biblical period, with the earliest mentions found in texts like the Book of Exodus (Exodus 19:16).

The shofar’s horns varied in size and shape, typically ranging from 30 to 90 centimeters (about 12 to 35 inches) long, and they were meticulously prepared through a process that included removing the inner skeleton and polishing the exterior to a gleam.
