Ancient Dvaravati Buddhist Sculptures

In the heart of Southeast Asia, hidden beneath the dense canopy of tropical rainforests, lie the remnants of a civilization that flourished over a millennium ago: the Dvaravati culture. Spanning from the 6th to the 11th centuries CE, this ancient society, primarily located in present-day Thailand, left behind a breathtaking legacy of Buddhist sculptures that reveal the spiritual and artistic richness of the time.

Archaeologists in the region have unearthed over 400 distinct stone carvings, most notably in sites such as Uthong and Nakhon Pathom. Among the most significant discoveries are the sculptures from the Phra Pathom Chedi complex, believed to be one of the world’s oldest Buddhist stupas, standing at an impressive 127 meters.
