Ancient Mesopotamian King Stela

In 1901, amidst the dusty ruins of ancient Mesopotamia, archaeologists unearthed a monumental artifact that would illuminate our understanding of one of history’s earliest civilizations: the stela of King Hammurabi. Standing at an impressive 7 feet tall and carved from diorite, this black basalt monument, now housed in the Louvre Museum, showcases the earliest known code of law, inscribed around 1754 BCE in the Akkadian language.
